Administrator / School Music Department

Part Time/Term Time, from August 2019

A vacancy has arisen within the Music Department at Dollar Academy for a part-time/term time Administrative Assistant. The Music Department organises a busy calendar of musical events and a rich co-curricular programme, alongside curricular classes and an extensive programme of individual instrumental tuition.  The person appointed will become familiar with the full range of activities offered by the department and will provide essential support to the Director of Music in ensuring that the programme is delivered efficiently.  Although not essential, experience of working in a comparable environment would be desirable.  Excellent communication skills are required, as is the ability to work well with a wide range of people and to complete administrative tasks accurately and efficiently.

Daily tasks will include the administration of our complex programme of individual instrumental lessons, delivered by a large team of visiting staff. The successful candidate will liaise with pupils and visiting staff in order to ensure that lessons run smoothly.

Regular tasks will also include the following:

  • The administration of instrumental lesson requests and waiting lists
  • Liaison with parents regarding pupil attendance at individual instrumental lessons
  • The administration of a data bank of pupils involved in co-curricular music
  • Production of concert programmes and advertising posters
  • Booking venues and transport for musical events
  • Managing applications and arrangements for ABRSM and Trinity exams
  • Providing general administrative support to the Director of Music, Assistant Director of Music and other members of music teaching staff


The salary on offer is £9,868 based on the Scottish Joint Council for Local Government Officers pay scales and adjusted pro rata for term time and part time.


Normal working hours will be 21 hours per week Monday to Friday during term-time, with precise working patterns to be agreed with the Director of Music; however, extra hours may be required from time to time and these will be paid as additional hours on top of salary.


Our support staff are auto-enrolled in the Local Government Superannuation Scheme.


This is a term-time only position, and school holidays apply.

School Fees

Employees whose children attend the Academy may be eligible for fee remission, and details will be made available to the successful candidate.

All appointments at Dollar Academy are subject to satisfactory clearance through the Disclosure Scotland Protection of Vulnerable Groups Scheme. The successful candidate will be asked to make a formal application, the cost of which will be covered by the Academy.
