Dollar Academy’s Christmas Celebration 2020

Written by Louise Timney, Director of Music

At this time of year we are usually about to perform our Christmas Concert at the Usher Hall or Perth Concert Hall. Our massed choirs from Prep 5 upwards are rehearsed and ready to appear on stage with our Senior Orchestra and ensembles, and DAJO are waiting in the wings to end the evening with a selection of Christmas favourites.

Unfortunately, there is no such concert for 2020. This session we have had the challenge of not being able to sing together at school and many of our instrumental groups have been unable to rehearse due to performance restrictions and advice set out by the government for our safety.

Rather than cancel Christmas at Dollar we decided to approach it in a different way and so it is with great pleasure that I invite you and your family to watch our Christmas Celebration video.

The programme is varied and shows the talents of our pupils in many guises including: Junior pupils rising to the challenge of learning new instruments, pupils submitting individual recordings which have been edited together to form choirs, Art and English pupils producing paintings, drawings and recitations to complement our Winter theme and of course, no celebration could be complete without our World Champion pipers and drummers.

We hope you enjoy the video and look forward to the opportunity of welcoming you to a live concert in 2021.

In lieu of ticket sales this year, donations can be made to Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity here.

With best wishes for a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
