Form III Geographers Travel to the Yorkshire Dales
In the second week of May, 33 Form III geographers travelled to Malham, in the Yorkshire Dales, for four days of field work in order to collect information for their National 5 Assignment.
Highlights of the trip included a guided tour around a limestone cave with stalactites and stalagmites (the pupils were lucky enough to be accompanied by a committed cave diver), a visit to the limestone pavement at Malham Tarn that featured in Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows and a tour around a working quarry. Many evening games were played at the field centre, too.
Pupils also carried out river fieldwork, investigated the urban environment of Settle, and looked at different microclimates up a hill, giving them plenty of data to analyse for their National 5 assignments.
