Dollar Academy Reaches SISFA Cup Semi-Finals
Dollar Academy’s 1st XI football team have beaten George Heriot’s School 2-0 in the quarter-final round of the Scottish Independent Schools’ Football Association Cup. The boys’ victory on 17 March puts them through to the semi-final. The team lost to Heriot’s last year at the same stage and Heriot’s went on to win the tournament, so they were certainly the team to beat.
Dollar coach Mr Arnold (Biology) was delighted with the result, saying: ‘The conditions for the game were terrible with driving wind and rain, but the boys played out of their skins and put in a really spirited performance. Kieran Bell (Form V) scored both goals, but every player was fantastic—a real team effort. The first half ended 0-0. We struggled playing into the wind but the boys put in a strong defensive performance to keep Heriot’s at bay. Goalkeeper Peter Bery (Form V) made a few crucial saves to keep us in the tie at half time.’
He added that ‘In the second half we had the wind in our favour and made great use of it. Kieran led the line superbly as our sole striker and scored a fantastic left-footed strike to make it 1-0. Heriot’s pressed towards the latter stages, but we held firm. In the last minute, Kieran chased down a long ball into the corner, dribbled past a defender and scored to make it 2-0: cue wild celebrations from the boys!’
The team will play High School of Dundee in the semi-finals.
