Argentina Tour 2016
Argentina Hockey & Rugby Tour 2016 - see our gallery of tour photos below.
Sunday 24th July
At last we were off and before we knew it we were all enjoying the sunshine of Madrid. A quick bus ride from the airport took us to a local park to help kill the 9 hour wait before the long connecting flight to Buenos Aires.
Monday 25th July
12 hours later we touched down in Argentina where we were welcomed by our tour hosts, James and Gabrielle. 70 tired bodies were transported to our hotel and then straight out for some well needed lunch.
Fully recharged but weary from the travel, we were whisked off to our Buenos Aires training base, the very impressive Club Italiano. Although tired, both the rugby and hockey players trained really well in the pouring rain and all enjoyed their first taste of the Argentinian winter! A far cry from the heat of Madrid.
Following dinner the whole touring party were early to their beds to get some well needed rest and sleep.
Tuesday 26th July
After breakfast we set out on a guided coach tour of Buenos Aires stopping off at the Cathedral and local markets for a spot of shopping.
Following lunch, we were back training. The rain and wind was relentless but the boys battled through the elements whilst the girls found a very impressive indoor facility, a small astro on the roof of a ten storey building ! Unfortunately the astro at club Italiano was flooded. The forecast is for the sun to shine so both the girls and boys will return to club Italiano in the morning for training. The day finished with a lovely meal at the local 'La Casona dil nono' restaurant.
Wednesday 27th July
The rain has stopped ! Finally we can get down to some quality work and both boys and girls took advantage to train really well in the sunny, ever improving weather conditions.
After lunch the group split with the girls getting a real treat going to watch world ranked number 2, Argentina, take on Korea in their final warm up game before heading to the Olympic games. The girls got to see close up the high skill level of the Argentinian ladies and just why they are much fancied to medal in Rio.
The boys enjoyed some down time and a trip to the local shopping mall to top up on their shopping.
Both boys and girls ended their day with a trip to La Casona dil Nono for a delicious meal before a relatively early night in preparation for tomorrow's first competitive hockey fixture against Club Italiano.
