Rugby

Dollar has a long and illustrious rugby history and a photograph of the 1887 XV hangs in the Rector’s study. We are one of Scotland’s leading rugby-playing schools and we passionately encourage our pupils to participate in the game at every level.  Dollar Academy has a reputation for nurturing talent and over the years has produced many of Scotland’s rugby greats, including a large number of Scotland’s internationalists.  Recent Scotland players Rory Lawson, John Barclay and Graeme Morrison all attended Dollar Academy.  Our senior players have toured South Africa and they undertook their pre-season training at Lake Como in Italy.

Rugby is the main sport for boys nullduring the autumn and spring terms.  All boys are provided with the opportunity to learn the game, which is taught during PE lessons from Prep School, with regular after school and weekend training and fixtures for Juniors and Seniors.

Our aim is to ensure that all boys who wish to do so can fulfil their potential, learn to play the game in the appropriate manner, enjoy participating, have the opportunity to represent the school in inter-school matches, improve their fitness, develop a team ethic and help contribute to the future of this great game.  We have a very good development programme, which nurtures our younger players and provides us with an exceptional pool from which to select our 1st XI team.

Our coaching team is led nullformer international player and coach Mr Don Caskie.  Capped for both Scotland A and Scotland B, Mr Caskie played professionally for Gloucester for several years, followed by an illustrious career coaching National League 1 side Moseley to win the EDF National Trophy and  the Georgian national squad to their Six Nations Grand Slam victory.   Mr Caskie brings huge experience of coaching at the very top level and is supported by our experienced team of coaching staff and regular visits from other coaches and national players.  This is a very well-resourced area of the school and our players benefit from specialised equipment and training and the presence of a qualified Physiotherapist in school and pitchside during rugby games.
