Pipe Band

Piping is a very popular activity at Dollar with over 160 of our pupils practising the instrument.  We teach in five tiers: from beginners on the chanter, junior band, quartets, senior bands and solo pipers.  Lessons can begin as early as Prep 3 and continue throughout a pupil’s school life at Dollar, and all pupils have the chance to learn and perform.

Our aim is to prepare our pipersnull
to compete at all levels, including participation in the national competitions.  The Dollar Academy pipe band has won the Scottish CCF Championship for thirteen consecutive years and competes in the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association at juvenile and novice grade and in 2014 were crowned World Champions.

For many of us the sight and sound of the pipeband is synonymous with Dollar Academy.  We begin each day during the summer term with the massed pipes and drums nullpractising on the school lawns.  Our pupils wear the Modern McNabb tartan when performing and have been internationally recognised for their high standard of play.  We have had innumerable invitations to represent the school playing at prestigious events at home and abroad.

Pipe Band Drumming

Scottish pipeband drumming is a sophisticated style of percussion that requires skill, co-ordination and practice.  We teach tenor, side and bass drumming at the school in three tiers: beginners, juniors and seniors band.  Lessons can begin from Prep 3 and continue through until Form VI.

Alongside their individual lessons nullour pupils also have regular opportunities for group practice and performance.  There are daily displays during the summer term and the opportunity for participation in the annual competitive circuit and to represent the school at various important events within the UK and abroad.
