We have a thriving Combined Cadet Force (CCF) at Dollar Academy. Membership in the CCF is voluntary and pupils may join in Forms II – VI. This is one of our most popular activities at the school with over 320 pupils taking part, giving us one of the largest cadet forces in Scotland.
As with all school Combined Cadet Forces, ours is not a pre-Service organisation. Our focus is upon providing a framework through which our pupils can develop qualities of endurance, resourcefulness, self-reliance, responsibility and leadership. We also aim to engender a sense of public service. The contingent at Dollar has a ‘section’ from each of the three services: Royal Navy, Army and RAF.
Our Naval section allows our pupils to experience most aspects of boat work, with an emphasis on leadership skills, afloat activities and adventure training. There is the opportunity for power boating, sailing and diving.
Our Army section is associated with Balaklava Company (5 Scots), and offers leadership and adventure training, along with the opportunity to specialise in Signals, Infantry or REME and receive training in radios and communication, weaponry and engineering under the leadership of experts.
Involvement in our RAF section allows pupils to experience the thrills of flying gliders and light aircraft, along with adventure training and leadership.
We parade on Friday evenings 3.30pm – 5.00pm, when we cover the training syllabus for all sections.
The CCF is directed and managed by a dedicated team of staff and is supported by routine visits from regular forces service personnel. Our Contingent Executive Officer provides a full-time presence in the school and deals with logistical and administrative matters.
Pupils involved in this activity have the opportunity to attend camp visits over weekends and during school holidays; there is also opportunity to travel abroad.
