The Junior School commands a unique and very special position at Dollar Academy as it forms the transitional stage between the Prep School and the Senior School. Whilst retaining the best of primary practice, it provides our pupils with the opportunity to begin to experience a more subject based approach to learning.
The Junior School spans two age groups - P6 and P7, known at Dollar as Junior 1 and Junior 2. It is also a popular entrance point for pupils, with the equivalent of an additional class of children joining in each year, with three Junior 1 classes, increasing to four in Junior 2. Our primary-trained teachers in the Junior School are responsible for a large part of the core subject teaching and work closely with Senior School staff who provide lessons in specialised subjects across the curriculum.
We place a huge emphasis on preparing our pupils for their move into Senior a School. Our pupils are involved in a wide range of activities and specialised lessons, which means by the time they move to Senior School they are already very familiar with many of the teachers, facilities and classrooms.
