There are 1218 pupils at Dollar Academy; approximately ten percent of the pupils in the Senior School board and the rest attend as day pupils.
Around 450 of our pupils live in the small town of Dollar and the rest travel to school daily from nearby towns and villages.
Whilst the majority of our boarders are of Scottish origin, we do also welcome a number of young people from around the world.
Mr Knapman was appointed Rector in August 2010. He initially expressed mild concern at being the thirteenth Rector, until a class of Prep School pupils pointed out that there are thirteen letters in Dollar Academy and that this might be a lucky omen. A former pupil of Dunblane Primary School and Morrison’s Academy, he played rugby and cricket against Dollar as a boy. He holds an M.Phil in Education from the University of Exeter and joined Dollar from Hampton School in south-west London, where he taught mathematics for ten years, latterly becoming Deputy Headmaster. He has delivered national seminars on pastoral, disciplinary and cyber issues at HMC and ISBA conferences. Mr Knapman has a long record of support for a range of charities and worked closely with SHINE and ISSP in London, setting up programmes of educational support for disadvantaged youngsters. He is also a trustee of HMC Projects in Eastern Europe.
There are 127 teachers and 155 support staff at Dollar Academy. All our teachers are fully qualified, GTC registered and many have additional experience from backgrounds in commerce, professional sport, music and research. Our secondary subject and primary specialists are recruited from the very top of their field and all have a genuine passion for learning and an enthusiasm for the personal development of individual children and young people. Our support staff include professional sports coaches, music instructors, school nurses and a physiotherapist, along with a large administration, domestic and support infrastructure.
Our Board of Governors
We are governed by a board of elected members. Our Governors include representatives from our parental body and Former Pupils.
Our Parents' Association (DAPA)
The Dollar Academy Parents Association exists to represent the collective parental body in any matter pertaining to the school and the Governors of Dollar Academy Trust. A committee member is elected from DAPA to the Board of Governors. The present governor representative is Mrs Debbie Weir.
In addition to this formal role, the Parents' Association hosts a number of social events, which allow parents to meet and to chat, and it has a presence at the major school events.
All parents are welcome to become involved and can contact the Parents Association by email at firstname.lastname@example.org
